Molecular Dynamics Simulations of Multiphase Flows at Nanoscales

This research aims to investigate droplet processes and regimes at nanoscales that can not be simulated using the continuum-based methodologies. In particular, the research focuses on (i) the dynamics of collisions between submicron-size droplets and (ii) vaporization of submicron and non-spherical droplets. Rigorous methods based on molecular dynamics (MD) simulations are being used to examine the dynamics of deformations associated with the gas film and colliding droplets, and to delineate various collision regimes over a wide range of conditions including the critical and supercritical conditions. The MD methods are also being employed to investigate the vaporization characteristics of submicron droplets under subcritical, transcritical, and supercritical conditions. Both spherical and nonspherical droplets are being analyzed.
